Kanubhai Ratanlal Jani worked as an Assistant Architect at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Supply, in New Delhi in the early 1950s before being granted leave to visit the UK in 1956 and enrol as a post-graduate on the Architectural Association’s Department of Tropical Architecture (DTA) six-month course. He is recorded as having previously earned a Diploma in Architecture, although it is not known at which institution this took place. Following completion of the DTA course, in 1957, Jani returned to New Delhi, continuing to work for the Ministry of Works, Housing and Supply, progressing through the ranks, until at least 1970 when he is noted as holding the position of Deputy Director for Designs, for the National Buildings Organisation. By 1975 Jani was working for the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), based in New Delhi, and acting as Principal Architect for the Parliament Annex Building (with J.M. Benjamin), which was officially inaugurated by Indira Gandhi on October 24th, 1975. Two years later, he is recorded as holding the position of Senior Architect for the CPWD.
