Gopal Singh Durgalall Nandiwal qualified as an architect at Delhi Polytechnic (now Delhi Technological University) before moving to the UK in 1955 and enrolling as a post-graduate on the Architectural Association’s Department of Tropical Architecture six-month course. Following his graduation, Nandiwal studied Town and Country Planning at the University of Manchester. He subsequently returned to India in 1960, joining the Town Planning Division of the Government of Rajasthan, based in Jaipur, where he took on the role of Senior Town Planner, helping to formulate planning standards for Jaipur and working on master-planning for the city of Jaipur in the early 1970s.
