Robert Lynn Yuen-Han joined the Architectural Association, London, as a Second Year student in 1957, progressing through the Diploma course and graduating in 1961. He was funded by the Malaysian government and as part of his final year’s studies took the option of studying with the AA’s Department of Tropical Architecture, where his final thesis was on the redevelopment of a slum area on an island adjacent to Hong Kong. After completing his Diploma, Robert remained with the Tropical Department on an Aluminium Federation research fellowship and was a co-author, with course director, Otto Koenigsberger, of the publication ‘Roofs in the warm humid tropics’ (1965). From the mid-1960s Robert was teaching in the Department of Architecture at the Technical College, Kuala Lumpur (now Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), whilst working in his own private practice.
