
Theophilus Adelodun Okin is recorded in the admission registers at the Architectural Association, London, as a Nigerian student enrolled on the ‘General Course’ of the Department of Tropical Studies, for the 1965-66 session. Following his successful completion of the course, he moved to the US, where he was engaged in postgraduate research within the School of Architecture and Planning at Columbia University. During his studies there, his seminal book, ‘The Urbanised Nigerian: An examination of the African and his new environment’, was published by UNESCO. Precise dates and details concerning Theophilus’ early career are not yet known to us, beyond the fact that prior to coming to the AA he had already written a book on the historical and architectural development of Ilorin City - published in 1960 by Ahmadu Bello University. He was to become a much respected academic, holding the role of Dean at the Faculty of Environmental Design, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and, from the late 1990s, being a Founder and Provost of Kinsey College of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State. In 2011 was awarded the prestigious Order of the Niger, the second highest national award in Nigeria.
